Light therapy
Can I use the laser every day?

It depends which device you are using and which treatment protocol you are following. The Parkinson's abdomen-neck protocol should be used 3 days per week with a day's rest in between each treatment session (ie:Monday, Wednesday and Friday).

More light therapy is not always better! We strongly recommend sticking to our research-backed treatment protocols that are provided with each SYMBYX device. Please reach out to our team if you require assistance.

I can’t see the laser light, how do I know its working?

Infrared light is invisible to the naked eye, so you will not be able to see the light being emitted from the device.

In order to indicate to you that the device is emitting infrared light, you will see a band of green light around the PDCare laser (band of blue light for the PhysioCare; band of red light for the DermaCare). The DuoCare904 and ProSeries also have non-therapeutic lights to indicate that the device is turned on and emitting, which you'll also be able to read on the LED panel.

Please note that with all laser light devices, we do not recommend looking directly into the diodes.

How long does an application session take?

For pain-related conditions, the duration of application differs based on the affected body area. Also, session frequency will vary, with acute injuries potentially requiring up to five sessions per week and chronic pain conditions typically needing one to three sessions per week. The total application time will last between 45 seconds and up to 20 minutes, depending on the depth and body part chosen.

The Abdomen-Neck Protocol session takes 20 minutes, 3x a week.

The SYMBYX Neuro wellness helmet is designed to improve overall wellness and may be utilised up to five times a week. Its features are fully automated, ensuring the device ceases operation after a complete 24-minute session.

Each device comes with a treatment protocol. For most customers, patience and consistency are rewarded.

Do the SYMBYX lasers have regulatory clearance?

Our handheld laser devices are CE and ARTG listed. SYMBYX devices are subject to different regulations, permits and clearances in each country.

What are the side effects of light therapy?

One of the most exciting things about SYMBYX light therapy is that it has a very high safety profile. Occasionally, if someone has a sensitive nervous system, they may experience symptoms of Dysautonomia, which is more common in neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's. This could present as symptoms of dizziness, nausea, increased tremors, pain and increased anxiety. Symptoms almost always begin within the first week to two of commencing treatment. If this occurs, we recommend taking a break from the therapy and contacting our team immediately. Our Clinical Support team will then be in touch to advise further.

Is laser light therapy suitable for children?

It is SYMBYX policy only to advise a course of treatment after consideration of all the relevant safety and contraindication information. The minimum recommended age for a course of treatment is generally the legal consent age. There are circumstances, however, when a legal parent/guardian may wish to treat a person under the legal consent age. While there is no clear minimum cut-off age for safe light therapy tolerance, we do not recommend that any person under the age of 12 uses the therapy unless it has been fully discussed and approved in advance by the patient’s primary care physician. If a customer under the legal consent age is considered for light therapy treatment, such therapy should only be done under supervision by the legal parent/guardian. For any questions, please contact our Clinical Support team.

What is the difference between DuoCare 904 & PhysioCare?

The PhysioCare by SYMBYX is a medical-grade laser designed and approved specifically for home use to reduce symptoms of fibromyalgia and pain and inflammation. The PhysioCare operates on 6 x AAA batteries.

The DuoCare 904 is a medical-grade laser device designed to alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia, and pain and inflammation. It delivers infrared light therapy at 904 nanometres to target pain and inflammation at four different depths in the body, including the closer to the skin's surface.

The DuoCare 904 treats pain and inflammatory issues 3x faster than the PhysioCare laser, making it a powerful tool in your light therapy regimen. Our DuoCare 904 is also a rechargeable device.

Both the DuoCare904 and the PhysioCare are approved medical devices for the symptomatic management of pain and inflammation. SYMBYX devices are subject to different regulations, permits and clearances in each country.

My laser keeps beeping, is it broken?

If your laser device starts to beep continuously, this usually indicates that the device is low in batteries. Simply replace the batteries in your device and the beeping should conclude. If the issue continues to persist, please contact our Customer Care team and they will assist you in troubleshooting the issue. info@symbyxbiome.com

Can I travel with my device?

You can. For the SYMBYX Neuro, the portable power bank should be transported in your hand luggage for safety reasons, as following the advice of most airlines. However, the helmet itself can be transported as checked luggage. To save time during transit while travelling overseas, we recommend checking in your DuoCare 904 with your luggage. The device contains a lithium ion battery, with 2 power switches and is therefore safe to be checked in. The power switches protect the device from accidentally turning on. You can also travel with the device in your hand luggage for domestic travels. Similarly, for our AAA battery operated handheld lasers (PDCare, PhysioCare, DermaCare), we advise putting it with your check in luggage. If you are unsure, please feel free to check with your airline.

Where are the devices made?

SYMBYX devices are made in Sweden, and Korea.

What warranty is included on SYMBYX products?

Please see our warranty page, or contact our Customer Care team if you have questions.

If I feel like my symptoms are getting worse, what do I do?

If you feel like your symptoms are worsening, please take a break from the therapy, and contact our team immediately. Our SYMBYX Clinical Support are here to provide ongoing support and guidance. Usually, these symptoms fully resolve with 1-2 weeks break from the therapy. Clinical Support will then work with you to provide ongoing support and adapt the therapy for you using a reduced dosage.

Do I need to speak to a doctor before using light therapy?

You may begin SYMBYX light therapy today, without medical referral. However, please review our Safety and Contraindications page. In some instances, we recommend seeking medical approval before commencing light therapy treatment, while in other cases, we do not recommend light therapy at all. Our Clinical Support team is happy to work with your doctor, neurologist and rehab team to ensure a positive outcome for you. If you need brochures or a letter for your doctor, neurologist, physical therapist, or other service provider, please contact our team.

Can I use SYMBYX lasers if I am on medication?

Yes. SYMBYX light therapy is designed to complement your current treatment regime. If your medication causes you to be photosensitive (sensitive to light), we recommend that you contact our Clinical Support team for further instruction.

Is the laser supposed to beep twice after two minutes?

The PDCare, PhysioCare, and DermaCare devices are designed to beep once after every 1 minute of treatment. If the device loses contact with your skin and the coloured light band turns off, reapply the device to the treatment area and the device will not reset but will continue treating for that minute.

What support is provided?

We love hearing from our customers! No matter where you are in your SYMBYX journey, our Customer Care team is available to assist you with any queries you may have. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours of normal business hours.

Do I need to wear safety glasses while using the lasers?

Safety glasses are recommended when using our more powerful, clinical-grade DuoCare 904 and ProSeries devices. Protective glasses are provided with all DuoCare 904 and ProSeries orders.

The PDCare, PhysioCare, and DermaCare do not require you to wear safety glasses. In saying this, we still do not recommend shining the laser directly into your eyes.

Why do some people see results faster than others?

It is important to remember that no two people are exactly the same. There are many impacting factors to consider including demographics, history of diagnosis, stage of disease, comorbidities, concurrent treatment regimes, diet, activity levels, sleep patterns and more. Therefore, some people tend to respond more quickly to the therapy, while for others it can take longer to notice improvements.

Light therapy is just like exercise or eating well: consistency is key. There is a cumulative effect, and further improvements may be experienced over time.

I have Parkinson's, what device do I buy?

If you are living with Parkinson's, we recommend starting with our handheld laser, the PDCare. This device is approved, CE-marked and ARTG-listed for the reduction of Parkinson's symptoms using our Abdomen-Neck Protocol.

For additional wellness, you can add our SYMBYX Neuro wellness helmet.

I purchased a PDCare, can I use it for pain?

Yes, you can! The instructions for areas of pain can be found on page 16 and 17 of your Instruction Manual, or reach out to our team to advise you. info@symbyxbiome.com

If you have significant pain or inflammation around the body, we recommend either the higher powered PhysioCare laser or the DuoCare 904 laser instead. The DuoCare 904 treats pain and inflammatory issues 3x faster than the PhysioCare, making it a powerful tool in your light therapy regimen. Our DuoCare 904 is also a rechargeable device.

Our devices are CE and ARTG listed. SYMBYX devices are subject to different regulations, permits and clearances in each country.

How long until I see results following the SYMBYX Abdomen-Neck Protocol?

If you are using one of the handheld laser devices for the reduction of Parkinson's symptoms, using the Abdomen-Neck Protocol, results are not instantaneous. Customers living with Parkinson's may need to follow the protocol for 10 to 12 weeks before experiencing any noticeable benefits and they may continue to see improvements in their symptoms over the next 12-18 months. Clinical trial results also indicate little deterioration in individuals living with Parkinson's, if any, over a 3-year time span, which is extremely encouraging.

How do I know SYMBYX light therapy will reduce my Parkinson's symptoms?

Unfortunately, there is no cure yet for Parkinson's disease. SYMBYX light therapy helps reduce Parkinson's symptoms by improving the body's natural function and restoring a healthy gut-brain connection.

The PDCare laser is the only approved medical device indicated for the reduction of Parkinson’s. Participants in our clinical trials saw improvements in fine motor and motor skills, sleep, digestion, and other symptoms. Like all treatments, we have a range of responders from people who are super responders to individuals who only see changes in one or two areas.

It's important that the therapy is continued on a consistent and regular basis. Research has now shown that people, who continued to use SYMBYX light therapy for over 3 years, maintained their benefits - which is extraordinary for a neurodegenerative condition! SYMBYX devices are subject to different regulations, permits and clearances in each country.

Why isn’t light therapy widely accepted for the reduction of Parkinson's symptoms?

SYMBYX Biome is proud to have developed a handheld light therapy device, the PDCare, which has been clinically proven to reduce Parkinson's symptoms. This groundbreaking device represents a significant advancement in the field of light therapy for neurological conditions.

Our device has undergone rigorous testing and has demonstrated significant improvements in Parkinson's symptoms in clinical trials. These findings, published in BMC Neurology in 2021, have been further supported by subsequent research.

The continued success of our PDCare device highlights the potential of light therapy for Parkinson's management. We remain committed to scientific research and innovation to drive advancements in this field.

If I stop using my PDCare laser, will my Parkinson symptoms come back?

We recommend the continuous use of the devices. Light therapy helps reduce Parkinson's symptoms by improving the cell's natural function and restoring a healthy gut-brain connection. With a neurodegenerative condition like Parkinson's, the light therapy constantly tries to boost the function of the cells while the body simultaneously tries to shut them down. This is why it's important that the therapy is continued on a consistent and regular basis. If discontinued, you will notice an increase or return of symptoms.

How do I use my device?

Upon delivery, you will receive everything you need to get started with your SYMBYX light therapy. All SYMBYX light therapy devices come with an instruction manual, user guide or treatment protocols and a protective case.

You can also visit the treatment protocol section of our website for the above materials, as well as some helpful 'how-to' videos from our SYMBYX YouTube channel.

If I use the laser more will I get better results?

More is not always better! When it comes to light therapy, it's important to get the dosage just right, as too little or too much both cause diminishing returns. We call this a biphasic dose response. This is why following the science is so important, and research is at the core of everything we do at SYMBYX. Our treatment protocols and recommendations are evidence-based and clinically-backed. If you need further assistance with your SYMBYX light therapy treatment, you can contact our Clinical Support team anytime.

I have DBS, can I use SYMBYX light therapy?

We do not recommend the SYMBYX Neuro helmet for customers with DBS unless they have received medical approval. This is only a precaution due to insufficient clinical data supporting the application of light therapy over an implanted DBS device. At SYMBYX, we prefer to err on the side of caution.

We have many customers with DBS using one of our handheld lasers and experiencing positive results.

Will light therapy fix tremor?

The triple-blinded randomised-controlled trial completed at the SAN hospital in Sydney, Australia, using our SYMBYX Neuro helmet, found that participants had a noticeable improvement in tremor. However, no two people with Parkinson's are exactly the same, and tremor is particularly challenging to treat. It is unfortunately impossible to predict which of the symptomatic improvements any one customer may experience. Therefore, we cannot guarantee results.

Why should I try light therapy?

Light therapy is easy to use, non-invasive and appropriate for home use.

Pain-free: One great thing about this therapy is that it is completely painless.

Drug-free: There are no synthetic substances introduced into your body. Light therapy works by stimulating your cells to repair themselves.

Backed by Science:

  • 100+ years of scientific evidence
  • 6,000+ peer-reviewed and published scientific studies
  • 40+ new published studies per month.

As always, please consult with a qualified medical professional before any changes are made to your regular care routine.

Have SYMBYX lasers been safety tested?

All SYMBYX Biome devices have undergone rigorous safety testing and have been certified by an independent third-party laboratory to meet international safety standards. SYMBYX devices must comply with varying regulations, permits, and clearances specific to each country.

Is light therapy different to photobiomodulation?

Photobiomodulation (PBM), also referred to as cold laser therapy or low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is a type of light therapy. It involves the application of low-level (low-power) lasers or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to the body's surface.

SYMBYX laser light therapy is a safe, painless way to use light to promote your body's natural processes. Unlike powerful lasers used in surgery, this gentle light stimulates your cells to repair themselves.

What is the difference between red light and infrared light?

Red light and infrared light are found side by side on the light spectrum. Red light has a wavelength range of 620-750nm and is visible to the human eye. Infrared light sits just outside the visible light spectrum (which means it is not visible to the human eye) and has a wavelength range of 780nm-1000nm. Both are safe to the human body, and have therapeutic benefits. At SYMBYX we use a range of red light and infrared light wavelengths for different conditions.

How long until I see results?

The timeline for noticing improvements can vary based on the condition you are using the device for, with some individuals observing progress within one to two weeks. For chronic conditions it might take a bit longer to notice results, since the light therapy works with the natural body processes.

If you use a handheld laser device to reduce Parkinson's symptoms, most customers see results around 10 to 12 weeks of consistent use.

Does the use of the SYMBYX laser hurt?

SYMBYX light therapy is completely painless. Our devices are easy to use, approved for home use, and gentle on the skin. Should you experience any discomfort during or after using the devices, please contact our Clinical Support team, info@symbyxbiome.com, for further guidance.
