When light at the correct wavelength is applied during treatment, it sets off a cascade of healing biochemical reactions. The body tissue, through the mitochondria in the cells, absorbs the light and damaged cells begin to regenerate.

Superficial tissue is commonly treated with wavelengths between 600 and 700 nanometers (nm), and wavelengths between 780 and 950 nm are commonly used where deeper penetration is required to heal.

The differences between Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and lasers are in speed, transmitting distance and consistency. In summary, lasers operate at much faster speeds than LEDs, are more intense and can also transmit light much farther distances with fewer errors. However, be aware that there are large differences in the quality and efficacy of the many lasers and LEDs for sale on the internet. Most are not regulatory approved nor come with the necessary scientific research backing for the highlighted indication. SYMBYX Lasers are manufactured in Sweden and use super-pulsed diodes that will transmit with precision and consistency over many years.

Yes, there are over 4,000 published peer-reviewed articles about the impact and value of light therapy. Please see Published Research on our website. SYMBYX’s own current research efforts are focused on therapies used tomanage certain motor, cognitive and sensory deficits associated with Parkinson's disease, as well as other intractable conditions.

PBM is widely credited to have been first applied by doctors in the late 19th century. In fact, in 1903 a Danish Physician called Dr Niels Ryberg Finsen was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work in treating tuberculosis with ultraviolet or blue light and smallpox with red light. Much further work was then done by a Hungarian physician called Dr Endre Mester in the 1960s. Dr Mester is considered the pioneer of laser medicine.

No, the medical benefits of lasers were known long before NASA existed. However, NASA's deep interest in lasers provided more confidence and a springboard for much additional scientific research. The story goes that NASA astronauts accidentally discovered the benefits of light therapy when using LEDs to grow flowers in space. It’s not understood fully why, but hand cuts and body wounds do not heal in space as they do on earth. However, the NASA astronauts growing the seedlings in space noticed the remarkable side effect of healing hand-cuts and wounds.

Interestingly many of the modern technical advances in medical laser therapy were made by Soviet scientists in the former USSR as a consequence of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The application of laser therapy for pain, open wound, inflammation and scar reduction helped thousands of injured patients at the time.

Why SYMBYX Lasers

PDCare, PhysioCare and DermaCare lasers are all CE marked and ARTG listed.

Both PhysioCare and PDCare emit light of 904 nanometers in wavelength which cannot be seen with human eyes. This wavelength is part of the infrared spectrum and just beyond the visible spectrum of light for the human eye. Some cell phone cameras are more sensitive to light than human eyes, so can sometimes 'see or capture' the light by photo. Humans on the other hand, can't see anything beyond red (infrared) or violet (ultraviolet) on the electromagnetic spectrum of light.

DermaCare, however, emits laser light wavelengths of 635 which is visible to the human eye as bright red light.

There are no known or reported adverse side effects. However, please note that we do not recommend treatment over primary or secondary tumours, on pregnant women, on patients who have experienced strokes or who may be photosensitive (i.e.,sensitive to light as with many epilepsy patients), or over tattooed body areas. SYMBYX lasers should also never be used near the eyes, genitals or thyroid area.

Patients should feel absolutely no pain, vibration or heat when using our devices. In fact, one of the biggest advantages of SYMBYX Lasers are our high quality product and clinical testing medical research protocols. Our lasers are manufactured in Sweden, approved for home use, gentle on the skin and easy to self-operate.

No, all our laser devices - PhysioCare, DermaCare and PDCare - are battery operated and emit little to no electro-magnetic field (EMF) radiation.

Both PhysioCare and PDCare emit 904 nanometer wavelength and 60mW of power. They are driven by 6 AAA batteries. DermaCare, however, emits visible bright red laser light of 635 nanometers with 100mW of power and is a slightly higher-rated laser. It is still approved for home use and without protective eyewear, although we always warn against shining any laser light directly into one's eyes. Please see product pages in SHOP to learn more about the technical specifications of all SYMBYX lasers.

The basic difference is that most of the devices available on the internet, including the face masks, etc, are made with cheaper and much weaker LEDs which emit visible red light on a wavelength anywhere between 380 and 700 nanometers. You may need to use them for quite a long period before you start noticing benefits, if at all. DermaCare, on the other hand, consistently emits very reliable and precise visible red light wavelengths of exactly 635 nanometers, which are more intense and effective over the longer term.

PhysioCare was engineered for people with chronic pain - eg, from joint degeneration, muscle strains, ligament tears and persistent inflammation. Our patients include those with plantar faciitis, lower back and neck pain, sore kneesand other common repetitive injury conditions.

DermaCare is more appropriate for inflammatory conditions that are closer to the skin's surface, general tissue repair and joints in areas with less muscle (eg, fingers and toes). It works closer to the surface and is a verypowerful hand-held laser. It is particularly helpful for treating wounds, abrasions, spots, skin blemishes and scars.

PDCare is truly unique when used with SYMBYX microbiome application protocols. It is CE marked and ARTG listed for reducing Parkinson's and Fibromyalgia symptoms.

For Chronic Pain

Using PhysioCare, most customers begin to notice a reduction in pain after just 3-4 treatments, but results will vary from person to person and depend on the size and severity of the pain or specific ailment. Please see specific guidelines for your body ailment in the Instruction Manual that comes with each of our devices.

How often you need to use your laser will largely depend on the specific body part or ailment being treated. For example, a sore finger or toe, being a smaller area of the body, may require less days of treatment than, for example, lower back pain. Back pain may require at least 1-2 weeks of treatments. We recommend using your PhysioCare laser device daily for the first 3-5 days, and then 2-3 times a week (or every second) day for several weeks. Specific guidelines are outlined for each body ailment in the attached Instructions Manual on pages 15-17.

Whilst laser therapy may be safe, we do NOT recommend the therapy for pregnant women as there is currently insufficient research to support this type of usage.

No, sorry. If you have epilepsy or are photosensitive we do NOT recommend laser therapy.

Yes, DermaCare is safe for post cancer patients and we have many customers who have found some great relief from their symptoms. Such symptoms are often an unwanted and unanticipated, nasty side-effect of chemotherapy treatment.

Yes, in fact many SYMBYX customers have great results from using PhysioCare to assist in the post-operative recovery process. DermaCare would also be very handy for post-operative scar healing. You would obviously need to follow a very hygienicapplication protocol if used post surgery.

You can use your SYMBYX laser almost everywhere except of course over (or near) your eyes, genitals and other endocrine glands (such as your thymus and thyroid). Althoughthe PhysioCare Laser emits light in the infrared spectrum (which is completely invisible to the naked eye), it is still a high-grade medical device that delivers continuously super-pulsed 70 mW of energy whilst activated.

We advise that users of our devices be over 16 years of age. Adult supervision is required for any patients 8-16 years of age. We do not advise laser therapy for children under 8 years of age.

No, you do not need to shave before using our PhysioCare Laser. Skin should be clean, dry and free from personal care products such as moisturisers, creams, lotions, etc. Please do not use a SYMBYX laser over tattoos as this skin tends to be far more sensitive.

Yes, please see the instructional video for PhysioCare under the HOW TO USE section of our website. Laser treatment times are ~30 seconds to 1 minute per point on the body. As little as 1 point on the board may be treated, in simple cases such as a sore finger or sore toe, but as many as 15 points may be treated for larger or more complex pain or dysfunction such as with chronic lower back pain. This is explained in the instruction manual that comes with your device purchase (on pages 15-17).

For Parkinson's

Detailed instructions for how to use PDCare for reducing Parkinson's or Fibromyalgia symptoms will be sent and explained with each purchase. The protocol may vary depending on your stage and circumstances. As you probably know by now Parkinson's is a heterogeneous condition that affects everyone a bit differently.

Research measuring the impact of PBM on reducing Parkinson’s symptoms in a group of Adelaide, Australia-based patients was published in BMC Neurology, a leading UK science journal. The BMC Manuscript concluded that :

"PBM was shown to be a safe and potentially effective treatment for a range of clinical signs and symptoms of PD. Improvements were maintained for as long as treatment continued, for up to one year in a neurodegenerative disease where decline is typically expected. Home treatment of PD by the person themselves or with the help of a carer might be an effective therapy option. The results of this study indicate that a large RCT (Randomised Control Trial) is warranted”.

Device Maintenance

No. Please contact us immediately at info@symbyxbiome.com or +61 2 8066 9966. SYMBYX Lasers are safe but high-grade medical devices and need to be serviced every 3-4 years.

If your batteries are only lasting a few days, this probably means you are failing to fully turn OFF the laser device after use. Pleasecheck. You may be inadvertently leaving the device in the STAND-BY position. To test if the machine is fully turned off after use, it should not be possible to emit laser light when pressed onto skin in the OFF position.

You can use an alcohol wipe, or any antibacterial product to clean down the handset and the light window after each treatment. Ensure your handset is powered off, before doing so. You should then store the handset in a cool, dry place after use (once the handset is completely dry), out of reach of children and pets.

It depends on which device you purchase. It isn't necessary to wear eye protection while using the PDCare, PhysioCare, DermaCare and the SYMBYX Neuro, however, it is required that you wear safety glasses whilst using the DuoCare 904 and the ProSeries. Safety glasses are provided with these two products.

The PDCare, PhysioCare and DermaCare lasers will not emit laser light unless it is pressed firmly against your skin. That being said you should never look directly into the diodes, and you should NOT use the device over or near your eyes.

With correct usage and servicing every 3-4 years, your SYMBYX laser should last for many years. Every laser is guaranteed to emit the correct therapeutic dosage over its entire life, provided that all instructions are carefully followed.

For the SYMBYX Neuro, the portable power bank should be transported in your hand luggage for safety reasons, as following the advice of most airlines. However, the helmet itself can be transported as checked luggage.

To save time during transit while travelling overseas, we recommend checking in your DuoCare 904 with your luggage. The device contains a lithium ion battery, with 2 power switches and is therefore safe to be checked in. The power switches protect the device from accidentally turning on. You can also travel with the device in your hand luggage for domestic travels.

Similarly, for our handheld lasers (PDCare, PhysioCare, DermaCare) and ProSeries, we advise putting it with your check in luggage.

If you are unsure, please feel free to check with your airline.
