Light therapy for Chronic Pain

Light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, is the non-invasive delivery of light energy at specific wavelengths to stimulate the body's own healing process.

SYMBYX’s medical-grade PhysioCare and DuoCare 904 Lasers are easy to use at home and ARTG/CE listed for reduction in chronic pain and inflammation.

Research

There are currently 8,000 + peer-reviewed scientific studies reporting on the incident-free, protective and restorative properties of light therapy for a number of health conditions.

Medicine-free

The handheld PhysioCare laser is non-invasive and compact for use at home or on-the-go. Apply near-infrared light therapy directly over your targeted body areas for natural, drug-free pain relief.

Benefits

Infrared light therapy benefits include reduction in inflammation. Reduced muscle pain. Increased cellular energy (ATP) which in turn encourages the body's own healing processes. Improved circulation.

Light Therapy: A medical treatment with a long history

The Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded to Danish Physician, Niels Ryberg Finsen, for treating Smallpox and Tuberculosis with red light therapy in 1903. Further progress in the light therapy field was pioneered by Professor Endre Mester, a Hungarian physician, who successfully used it to heal wounds and regrow hair in 1967. NASA also experimented frequently with LED and laser light therapy in the 1970's to grow flowers in space.

Today, photobiomodulation, as it is also called, is used for a variety of medical, cosmetic and health conditions, such as Chronic Pain, scar healing, gut and digestive issues, Arthritis, Peripheral Neuropathy, Lymphedema, Fibromyalgia and most recently, Parkinson's.

How does light therapy relieve Pain?

SYMBYX light therapy increases the nervous system’s capacity to tolerate increased painful (noxious) stimulus, which have become artificially lowered in a human chronic pain model.

Laser light therapy by SYMBYX stimulates healthier nerve function:

  • acting as a nerve block, thus leading to an inhibited translation of pain;
  • disrupting and affecting the physiological organisation of neurons (ie, cells within the nervous system) and how they work;
  • increasing neuronal latency (this is the delay before the transfer of data begins following an instruction or painful stimulus);
  • toning down the parts of a nerve fibre responsible for the fastest transmission of painful stimulus (think of narrowing the bandwidth of a pain fibre so not as much information gets through as before)
  • increasing the nervous system’s capacity to tolerate painful stimulus, which commonly become artificially lowered in chronic pain.

Research Supporting Light Therapy for Chronic Pain

Michael R Hamblin, 19 May 2017, Mechanisms and Applications of the Anti-inflammatory effects of Photobiomodulation, AIMS Biophysics Journal

Strong evidence identifying inhibition of nerve function as a mechanism for the clinical application of PBM in pain and anesthesia.

The PhysioCare Laser by SYMBYX is CE marked/ARTG-listed for reducing chronic pain and inflammation.
